VR Climbing Guidebook for Western Australia
Willyabrup
Western Australia (WA) is a big place. It has a territory of 2,645,615 square kilometres and boast a coastline of 12,500 kilometres that overlooks the indian ocean. The capital city, Perth, is approximately three and a half hours flying from Sydney/Melbourne.
Willyabrup is about three hours drive south-west from Perth. It is located right on the beach and it is close to a big wave surfing spot called Cow Bombie (Cowaramup Bombora). The rock in this place is mostly limestone and the majority of the climbs are vertical featuring trad & sport routes. Some of the routes features runouts that will challenge the mind of any climber. I would suggest a 60 metre rope for this place. The access is ideal for the whole family.
If you are looking to mix climbing, beach and wine, this is the right place to be. Willyabrup is in the middle of the Margaret River region, known for its wineries, gourmet restaurants and great waves.
Be aware that after I took the pictures in this area, there has been a rock fall on Steel Wall, which may have altered some of the routes in this wall.
